Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed his discontent over the broadcast of ‘The Kerala Story’ movie on Doordarshan saying it was made to “spread hatred against Kerala”.

The Kerala CM wrote in an X post that the national news broadcaster should “not become a propaganda machine of the BJP-RSS combine”.

“The decision by @DDNational to broadcast the film ‘Kerala Story’, which incites polarisation, is highly condemnable. The national news broadcaster should not become a propaganda machine of the BJP-RSS combine and withdraw from screening a film that only seeks to exacerbate communal tensions ahead of the general elections. Kerala will remain steadfast in opposing such malicious attempts to sow hatred,” an X post by Vijayan read.

The Kerala CM demanded Doordarshan should “immediately withdraw” its decision to screen the film ‘Kerala Story’. “The central government should refrain from using the country’s official news broadcasting organization to defame Kerala during the elections,” he said.

Calling Kerala a “model for the country in the eradication of extreme poverty”, the chief minister stressed the same people who compared the state to Somalia are trying to spread the “misinformation about Kerala being the hub of religious conversion”.

Vijayan also emphasised that a public sector organisation like Doordarshan should “not become a puppet acting according to the communal agenda of the Sangh Parivar”. “Doordarshan is not an agency for communal campaigning for BJP candidates,” he said.

The announcement that this movie will be aired on April 5 is tantamount to insulting the whole of Kerala. Secular Kerala will stand united against such destructive moves for communal polarization,” Vijayan added.
