A 45-year-old man was stabbed to death in Bengaluru on Tuesday night after he warned two young men against consuming alcohol and smoking near his house.
Police said 45-year-old Venkatesh was stabbed by two young men, Pawan Kumar and Nanda Gopal, on Tuesday at 10.30 pm in Bengaluru’s Vidyaranyapura area.
According to the complaint filed by Venkatesh’s uncle Bin Joseph, the deceased had gone for a stroll when he spotted the duo drinking and smoking in an empty place near his residence in Ramachandrapura and asked them not to indulge in such unhealthy practices at such an early age.
Police said Pawan Kumar and Nanda Gopal got into a fight with Venkatesh and Pawan stabbed him with a knife.
Police said Venkatesh was then rushed to the hospital, but he failed to respond to the treatment and succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning.
According to the police, Venkatesh was a resident of Ramachandrapura for three years and the accused, too, were residents of the same area and were known to each other.
Police told News18 that during the investigation it was found that when Venkatesh questioned the youths for drinking and smoking near his residence, they got angry and indulged in a fight with the deceased.
Police said as the altercation continued, Pawan, who was identified as the prime accused in the case, ran to his house to grab a knife and later stabbed Venkatesh.
Police added Pawan was a college (B.Com) dropout.
Police also said initially the case was registered under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) but later it was filed under Section 302 (murder).
