Several parts of the country are facing intense heat with the mercury soaring to 43 to 46 degrees Celsius

Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail over several parts of the country including West Bengal, Bihar, Telangana, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu till May 7, the weather department said. As the rest of the country will be reeling under high temperatures, the northeastern states are likely to receive heavy rainfall with thunderstorms till May 6.

A cloudy sky with the possibility of drizzle and strong surface winds during the day has also been predicted for the national capital.

Amidst the ongoing heatwave in Karnataka, BJP on Friday petitioned the Election Commission with a request to modify the polling hours to the 6am-7pm period in the 14 parliamentary constituencies in the state that goes to polls on May 7.

Several parts of the country are facing intense heat with the mercury soaring to 43 to 46 degrees Celsius, thereby prompting the government to issue health warnings for people.
